Legal Advice
Requests for legal services and legal advice in relation to University matters should always be directed to Legal and Compliance Services. Outside/external legal firms are not to be approached without the prior approval of the relevant General Counsel.
Legal Services provide specialist legal advice and assistance to the management and staff of the University on legal issues relating to the operation of the University.
These functions are provided through the following objectives:
- to provide high quality legal advice and representation in order to protect and promote the University's best interests;
- to provide legal advice on policies and statutes which support the University;
- to assist university compliance with statutory and legislative requirements,
- to promote legal awareness throughout the University;
- to negotiate and prepare contracts and agreements which enable the University to meet its strategic objectives whilst ensuring that the University's best interests are protected;
- to sign documents in accordance with the University's policies (in particular Legal/Contractual Documents - View the Register of Functions & Delegations)
